Greenlaning

Steve was very keen on greenlaning and had put together videos and route maps of many in East Sussex on his www.qwerf.com/greenlaning website.

I am working to keep the website going as I think it is important information that Steve would want his friends to still access.

I wouldn't have been able to do it without the help of one of his good friends Griff, he's been a star!

Hopefully it is working ok but if you do encounter problems do let me know.

  1. Hi Svens Mum

Thank you for taking the time to look after Sven's website. This is a fantastic resource for trailriders and a fitting memorial to the lad. I have spent so many hours virtual-trail riding with Steve as my guide. This weekend I was smiling at the memory of his underwater exploits whilst crossing the Walliswood stream!
Hope to make it up to Nottingham for the memorial ride.
    Best wishs,

    1. Thanks Cloudswiper, I love to hear the things that make people smile about him.

We are planning to meet up with the memorial riders at some point so hope to meet you there.

  2. Hello Svens mum.
I'm really sorry to hear of this terrible news. I did not personally know Sven, but through his greenlaning videos he helped me delve into a great new hobbie. His determination and enthusiasm (all weathers) to list all the byways around the counties helped me tremendously and I'm sure it has done countless others too.
I think if you can manage his and your own sites in the future it will provide not only a suitable memorial for him but it may also help others going through similar problems. My thoughts are with you and his family. Be strong.
    All the very best, Rick.

  4. Rick, I don't know if you can help me, or anyone else who used his Greenlaning database prior to April 2012. Were there any other county lanes listed, with maps and videos on there apart from East Sussex?

There is a drop down menu for quite a few counties but only files for E.Sussex, I wonder if he had not yet done those, or whether the files are somewhere else now.

  5. He had certainly got maps of East & West Sussex, Surrey, Kent & Hampshire. I can't vouch for the other counties

  6. Thanks for that Rick, it is a big help to know what I am searching for, where they are though is another matter! :-(

    1. Sorry just realised that my last post about this should have been directed to Cloudswiper. I've got a few people helping with the site so hopefully we will find them. :-)

  7. The site has had to be temporarily suspended as it possibly has a virus, not sure but not worth the risk until it is all checked out.

Hopefully it will be back on line soon. :-)

  8. Sorted and back on line.

I've also discovered that the other files do exist on the previous server so I will try to get those back as soon as possible. :-)

Not sure why they did not carry over.

  9. Big thanks to Steve's friend who has now got the other counties working.

Sadly the maps are still not working but hopefully they will one day. The work continues!

  10. I don't mind contributing to keeping the Byways Database going. Is there an email address I can contact?

  12. The greenlaning site will have to close for a while as it needs to be moved to a new server.

Will get it back on line as soon as possible.

  13. Well I think the move went ok.

Obviously there are still errors but now we can get to work hopefully and sort them out.
